Válek Merta Tarnovski: Metal
◐
Metal is a live performance full of crackling energy, tactile sound, and unexpected humour — played on Petr Válek’s kinetic sculptures, homemade synthesizers, ball bearings, kitchen utensils and old suitcases.
Metal on metal, metal on wood, metal with skin. Objects roll, whirr, creak, tinkle and rustle across the space. The trio – Válek, Merta and Tarnovski – move among their instruments and inventions, animating the room with friction, vibration and surprise.
The performance combines physicality and improvisation, with a raw spontaneity that blurs the line between composition and chance. Movements start mysteriously, spiral outward, and vanish – clanking, crashing or quietly slipping away.
Metal invites audiences into a world of restless textures and delicate balances, where sound becomes sculpture and every surface can speak. It is both playful and intense, grounded in the material and yet open to the imaginary.

About Válek Merta Tarnovski
Petr Válek is a painter, illustrator, musician, and creator of sound instruments and kinetic objects. Based in Loučná nad Desnou in the Jeseníky Mountains (Czechia), he has been immersed in painting, drawing, book illustration, and music since childhood. Alongside frequent musical performances, he constructs mechanical and electro-mechanical sound instruments from found materials — creating twirling, rustling, creaking, spinning, tinkling, and gurgling sculptures. These works, referencing pataphysics and the arte povera movement, stand as both unique musical tools and distinctive art objects.
